Episode 21

Chen Lin comforts Pi Zi

However, Ying Xiong finds out that he's the son of the Mob Boss. He does not take this well.

In an emotional scene, he tells Chen Lin that he loves her, that he wants to hold her hand and be with her every day.

And then he tells her he's her brother.

(SUPER SEXY I TELL YOU)

Meanwhile, Pi Zi is not taking the news well. He's angry that Mob Boss Father has thrown him aside so easily but there's nothing he can really do about it.

Well, actually there is one thing. He can take it out on Ying Xiong. Which is what he does.

Pi Zi calls Ying Xiong (who is hiding from the police) and tells him to meet him at a location. Ying Xiong agrees, thinking that Pi Zi is going to give him some information on who framed him.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. Instead, Pi Zi has ambushed him with his own police force. The thin strands of friendship that they had worked hard to form, breaks.

Now their roles are reversed. Pi Zi is now the head cop hunting Ying Xiong, who is now the criminal on the run.

I have to say that I really felt bad for Ying Xiong in this scene. He started off as the Type A Self Righteous Good Cop. The cop who followed justice at any cost, even at the cost of family or friendship.

And now what is he doing? Now he's the son of the Triad, running away from the cops and has become the very character he hates.

In the cap to the left, Hao Ke has hacked into the chip that Xi Ying worked so hard to find. Inside the chip, he finds manuals and government information about armed missiles. There's also ID numbers and other super secret spy info on it. Basically, information that people would kill to have.

Meanwhile, Ying Xiong has managed to escape from Pi Zi and he hides out in some sort of mobster lair. What does he do? Drink of course.

Until he gets a phone call from his psycho ex-girlfriend who tells him that she has his mom and is going to kill her if he doesn't do what she says.

Things just aren't looking up for him, are they?

He gets Hao Ke to meet with him and hand over the chip. Unfortunately, that's not all Mu Sha wants him to do. Mu Sha tells him to push Hao Ke over the roof.

However, this isn't something Ying Xiong can do. Even with his mothers life on the line, he can't kill an innocent person, especially a friend.

But Ying Xiong's hesitation doesn't matter. Mu Sha shoots Hao Ke instead.

(And inside I'm screaming NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!)

Well, Mu Sha now has the chip and, with Ying Xiong's mother safe and sound and the ambulance coming to pick up Hao Ke, Ying Xiong runs after Mu Sha to try to capture her.

On the calmer side of town (where I'm not flipping out over Hao Ke getting shot), Chen Lin visits an angry Pi Zi.

They have a bit of a heart to heart. Or more like Pi Zi lashes out at Chen Lin and tells her that he'll hunt down Ying Xiong; if not, then he'll tell the police where her father is. Chen Lin is hurt and tries to talk the issue through with Pi Zi, who is having none of that. He's still very angry, very hurt and has a lot of self loathing. He gets angry and pushes her against the sofa, taunting her by saying, "Now that we're no longer siblings, it's okay for me to do this right?". And he continues by comparing himself to Ying Xiong, "Ying Xiong would never do this, he'd be gentle, he wouldn't hurt you like I would". Fortunately, Chen Lin sees through his mask and gently kisses him, and tells him that he's not Ying Xiong, he's Pi Zi, and that she loves him, in a much different way than she loves Ying Xiong.

Pi Zi doesn't really respond to her kiss. He stays completely still, eyes wide open and kind of staring at her in shock. They slowly sit up and you think that they might continue. . .except the phone rings.

It's Xiao Ming, telling them that Ying Xiong's in trouble. Chen Lin immediately rushes to her car to help Ying Xiong but she can sense Pi Zi's hesitance. When she asks him if he would help Ying Xiong, Pi Zi honestly says that he doesn't know. However, when she asks him if Ying Xiong is still his friend, he quietly considers and gets in the car.

Meanwhile at the warehouse, Mu Sha (the crazy ex-girlfriend and part of super secret spy organization) has locked Ying Xiong into a room filled with carbon dioxide tanks. She sets off the tanks, which causes deadly smoke (~oooh~) to rise into the air. Ying Xiong only has a few minutes before all the oxygen leaves the room.

Fortunately, Chen Lin and Pi Zi arrive to help him. Unfortunately, they find out that Mu Sha had shot apart the wires allowing the door to open and Ying Xiong only has a few seconds before there's no oxygen left in the room.

Pi Zi looks at the wires and makes a decision. He tells Chen Lin that as soon as the wires touch, open the door and free Ying Xiong. And with that, Pi Zi grabs the two sparking wires in his hands and presses them together, electrocuting himself.

Chen Lin frantically pushes the door open and runs back to Pi Zi's side. Pi Zi had collapsed on the ground, unconscious. After CPR, Chen Lin revives him and then runs over to Ying Xiong, who is also unconscious. She is able to revive him as well.

Damn Chen Lin, take the next week off. You did a lot of work today.

She deposits the both of them to side and runs to find help. This gives the boys some bonding time.

This is the first time they've really talked since finding out the truth about who their father was.

To break it down (or make it more confusing, you decide) here it goes:
Ying Xiong is Mob Boss's real son. As far as we know, he is the biological son of Mob Boss and Lotus Lady. However, Lotus Lady was too afraid that goons would come to take Ying Xiong away so she gave him away to another family. Where does Pi Zi come in? Well, Pi Zi was an orphan boy who Lotus Lady picked up, apparently because she missed her own son too much (which, by the way, the logic in that is stupid). So they are not actually blood brothers, but they did have the same mother. However, Pi Zi is the one who grew up with that mother. Ying Xiong never knew her.

Got that?

*sigh*

Anyways, in a contemplative (and sad) moment, Ying Xiong asks Pi Zi about their mother. Pi Zi's reply? "She was one hot chick". I wouldn't expect anything less.

Our two manboys have a nice bonding moment.

After all the drama, Chen Lin drives Pi Zi home (at dawn and what a pretty shot) and they part on a semi-happy note. I'd call it hopeful.

Chen Lin tells Pi Zi that she wants to see pictures of him from when he was poor, from before his plastic surgery, and basically tells him that she'll love him that way also. The man he is now, the man he was, is a man she'll love.

Say it with me now. . . AWWWWWW.

But seeing as how this is Black & White, the episode can't end on a good note. Oh no no no. After Chen Lin drives away, Pi Zi gets a mysterious call from a man identifying himself as the prosecutor and telling him to meet him at the police station.

The man isn't someone who the audience recognizes but he's definitely someone that Pi Zi recognizes. dundundun!!!!!

And the episode ends with Mu Sha on her way to a private plane. . .and Ying Xiong running after her.
