nyc <3 japan @ 9:20 AM

heh he was adorable!

Last Sunday I did what I love to do most. . . sat down, read a book, ate some food and people watched.

There was a Japanese fair and a general food fair on Madison Avenue (from 43rd-56th St) and I walked around with some friends, grabbed some Thai food ($5 for a huge ass portion) and found a bench to sit on.

I was able to do my good deed of the day. On the bench I was sitting on, someone had left their cell phone. A few people called it and I hesitantly picked it up. I don't know the proper etiquette for lost phones; do I dial the home number? Do I pick up when someone calls? Anyways, I picked up for someone called Haruma and a woman started talking to me in Japanese. I tried to tell her that the phone's owner had left it on the bench but she just kept chattering on. I had to hang up on her. . .twice (and I felt really bad). The phone's owner finally called and was so so so grateful. He had left with his family and was 20 blocks away and he took a taxi to pick it up. He kept freaking out that I was going to just leave the phone; I had to assure him 2-3 times that No sir, I'm not going to leave your phone, Yes sir I'll wait here for you, No don't worry, take your time!

When he finally came, he was grateful and was willing to pose with his (two) phones. Heh! I managed to snap the above picture.

The cutest little girl. She would smile right before her mother gave her a bite of food. And then after she chewed it, she made this little shocked face. . .and smiled again. She was adorable to watch!

I'm pretty sure this boy thought we were following him. When we sat down to eat our lunch, he and his brother were playing in front of us. About an hour or two later, we went to Cafe Zaiya to get some dessert and . . . he was there also. We spent about 30 minutes in Cafe Zaiya and then left to walk to Madison Square Park. And guess who we found walking in front of us? This little boy and his family! I swear, he kept throwing back furtive glances.
